Nature Cam Attempt 2

General Wildlife Cam

Capture 2 (SUCCESS!)

27th May 2020

The second attempt was at the start, unsuccessful as the birds (crows) still came along and ate all of the seeds and fruit although... in the middle of the nigh we did have a badger come and visit after only the second day of putting out food! Now, the picture definately isnt great as we are just using one signle IR on the camera to save battery power, however you can definately make out that it is a badger and the photo where I have bumped up the settings clearly shows it! Hopefully we can see more in the future!

Nature Cam Attempt 4

General Wildlife Cam

Capture 4 (SUCCESS!)

29th May 2020

After last nights epic fail we decided to revert back to the way we were previously doing it as we knew that was working properly and I'm glad we did because although we didn't capture anything overnight (except a spider), we did get some tiny squirrels which appeared and seemed to very much like the apple we left out for it! This is a very good thing as we have been having this problem with birds eating all of the seed and nuts but they haven't touched the aple so hopefully... fingers crossed this will be a soloution for atleast the squirrels! We are working on a automatic food releaser that integrates with the Raspberry Pi so hopefullly that will mean we can release the food in the late evening after they have all gone to bed! Here is a selection of the pictures I got from the videos and just one of the videos (as they were there for over 30 mins just munching all the apple!!)

The timestamp is wrong as this video was obviously not taken at 2AM! It's due to the Raspberry Pi not being connected to the internet so it looses its time. This is being fixed for the next capture!

Nature Cam Attempt 3

General Wildlife Cam

Capture 3 (ABSOLUTE FAIL)

28th May 2020

This time we were not so successful, this was partly due to us moving the camera up higher pointing into a wider area and not realising that all the IR light would be absorbed by the black, dark ground! :( there was a small bush in the bottom of the screen so we knew the IR lights were working and it didn't seem like anything came so this time there isnt anything to show unless you like looking at nothing! Lets see if we get anything next time...

Nature Cam Attempt 1

General Wildlife Cam

Capture 1 (FAIL)

26th May 2020

Here is our first attempt at capturing all kinds of wildlife from our homemade DIY motion camera trap using a Raspberry Pi Zero W(H) (More detail on how we made it and what it looks like in a different post)

Unfortunately, this didn't really work as all we got was crows so not particularly what I was looking for!! Here is some video from that attempt although there isn't much and it's not very interesting.

(Be aware, this is from one of the later bird food snatches so we didn't just leave one small nut for all the animals!
